Former ABC chairman Justin Milne told former managing director Michelle Guthrie to sack high-profile presenter Emma Alberici following a complaint from then-prime minister Malcolm Turnbull.
In an extraordinary intervention that underlines the political pressure on Ms. Guthrie before she was axed on Monday, 24th September 2018. Mr. Milne appeared to acquiesce to government complaints about “bias” by calling for the chief economics correspondent to be fired because she was damaging the public broadcaster’s standing with Coalition MPs.
Staff at the ABC’s Ultimo headquarters in Sydney on Wednesday, 26th September 2018 unanimously passed a motion calling for Mr. Milne to step down while an independent investigation into his conduct occurred.

Justin Milne Resigns as ABC Chair
The ABC is now without a chair or a managing director after its chairman, Justin Milne, was forced to resign on 27th September 2018 in the face of damaging allegations accusing him of compromising the independence of the public broadcaster.
Mr Milne however, denied there had been any interference by the government in the ABC and said the “interests of the ABC have always been utmost in my mind”.
