Princess Elisabeth of Denmark was born on 8 May 1935 and died on 19 June 2018. She was the daughter of Hereditary Prince Knud and Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde of Denmark and was a first cousin of the present Danish monarch, Queen Margrethe II.

Princess Elisabeth Bio, Biography

As a first cousin of Queen Margrethe II, Princess Elisabeth  was twelfth in the line of succession to the Danish position of royalty at the time of her death. She never wedded and held the title of Prinsesse til Danmark (actually interpreted of as “Princess to Denmark“, which is saved for those individuals from the Royal Family in the line of succession). The single offspring of Knud, Hereditary Prince of Denmark, to hold progression rights to the position of authority of Denmark, she was descended from King George II of Great Britain and distantly featured in the line of progression to the British throne.

Princess Elisabeth was employed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1956 to 2001 and was posted abroad various times.

Princess Elisabeth Never wedded, she lived with film director Claus Hermansen in an isolated classical wing of the royal palace Sorgenfri in Lyngby close Copenhagen, where she had grown up. The couple had no children. She was godmother to her great-nephew, Theodor Rosanes of Rosenborg, the youngest grandson of Elisabeth’s sibling Christian.

Princess Elisabeth Cause of Death

On 19 June 2018, It was confirmed by the Danish Royal Court that Elisabeth had died.  Her cremation service is schedulled to take place at Lyngby Church. She will be buried beside her longtime companion, Claus Hermansen, who died in 1997 in Kongens Lyngby.
