Sharon Otieno was a 26 years old second-year student at Rongo University undertaking a course in Medical Records and Information. She was found with stab wounds in Kodero Forest, Homa Bay County on Tuesday evening 4th September 2018, a day after her abduction. Sharon was in a romantic relationship with Migori Governor Okoth Obado and was carrying his child at the time of her death. She also had three children which she had left to her former husband, Bernard Okuta, a teacher at Rapogi High School in Uriri constituency.

Sharon Otieno Abduction and Murder

Sharon Otieno, A Second-year University student of Rongo University, was together with Nation Journalist Barack Oduor on Monday night 3rd September 2018. Sharon and Oduor were kidnapped moments after being lured out of Graca Hotel in Rongo around 7.35pm of the same day by Governor Okoth Obado’s Personal Assistant Michael Oyamo.

Oduor said he escaped death by a whisker after he jumped out of the kidnappers’ speeding car at Nyangweso market on Homa Bay-Kisumu road. Sharon was, unfortunately, was found dead with stab wounds in Kodero Forest, Homa Bay County on Tuesday evening 4th September 2018. At the time of her death, Sharon Otieno, was seven months pregnant, with what has already been confirmed as Migori Governor Okoth Obado Child. Barack Oduor, the Nation Journalist, was covering a story of love gone sour, between Sharon and the Migori Governor.

Oyamo, Okoth Obado PA was arrested in Uriri on Tuesday the same day Sharon’s body was found and taken to Homa Bay for questioning over the incident that left the Nation Journalist seriously injured and Sharon Otieno dead.

Sharon Otieno Investigations

The investigations into the murder are still ongoing. Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s Personal Assistant (PA), Michael Oyamo, has been accused of spearheading a notorious gang that is said to be made up of youth loyal to Obado and who would do anything to protect the governor’s interests. Oyamo, an ex-Navy officer and one of Obado’s most trusted aides, allegedly worked closely with the gang, dubbed Sangwenya, to silence anyone deemed as a threat to Obado’s reign. The other key individuals associated with Sangwenya were Caspal Ajwang’ Obiero, Elvis Okoth Omondi, and Naphtali Odie. One of Obado’s aides and the driver of Toyota Fielder that was used to kidnap Sharon and Oduor was arrested on Tuesday, 18th September 2018 and arraigned in court a day later, alongside Omondi, the governor’s bodyguard. Also on the detectives’ radar but yet to be arrested is Odie, Obado’s brother-in-law and retired police officer turned businessman.

The Migori Governor, Okoth Obado was arrested on Friday, 21st September 2018, after over a week of the probe into the murder of Sharon, the governor’s ex-lover who DNA test confirmed was pregnant with his baby at the time of her cruel death. The governor appeared in court on Monday, 24th September 2018, to face murder charges. Migori First Lady Hellen Obado, Mrs Obado was in communication with Sharon over her alleged affair with her husband.

Her brother, Naftali Odie is also a person of interest in the ongoing investigations.

Sharon Otieno Ex Husband

Sharon Otieno was previously engaged to Mr. Bernard Okuta. The husband was allegedly planning to pay dowry in 2017, but the deceased was reported to be reluctant.

Bernard is a teacher at Rapogi High School in Uriri constituency which is located five kilometers away from the home of Governor Obado. They had three children, a son and two daughters.

In a statement to the Nation Media, the former husband made a statement saying,  “This matter is too emotive for me to comment. If I wanted to comment on it, I would have done so long ago. I would rather leave the matter to the police and other investigators to find out what happened.

Sharon Otieno Burial

Sharon Otieno will be buried in Homa Bay on Friday, 19th October 2018 after her estranged husband allegedly failed to contact the family. Sharon’s body was removed from MED 25 International mortuary in Mbita and ferried to her grandfather’s home in Magare village, Homa Bay. Sharon’s family on thursday, 18th October  said they decided to bury her at her grandfather Samuel Odege’s home in Magare because Bernard “failed to communicate”.

Sharon Otieno Extreme Opulence

Sharon Otieno lived a life of extreme opulence – this is despite the fact that she came from a humble background and was not working. She was allegedly dining and whining with a senior politician from Nyanza in luxurious hotels and traveled out of the country not once not twice. She never shied from displaying her new found stature. She was obviously elated that she had finally bid poverty goodbye. This is understandable.

It is alleged that Sharon Otieno rejected a house worth Sh 10million and demanded one worth Sh 35 million in Westlands from Okoth Obado before her gruesome murder.
