Taj Mall Demolition

Taj Mall located on Outer Ring Road and owned by Mr. Rameshchandra Govino Gorasia, demolition is underway. The owner was given 14 days notice to bring it down as it encroached on the road reserve hindering the expansion of outering road.

The management of the building was issued with a notice to vacate on mid-August 2018 which read as follows;

​ “Notice is hereby given to the owner(s)/ developers(s) of the illegal development, namely Airgate Mall, formerly Taj Mall, situated at the North Airport Road at the junction of Outering Road, which has encroached on the road reserve and way-leave hindering the continuance of construction of the Outering Road.”

Police Man the Building During the Demolition Exercise

The exercise began in the wake of the Saturday, 15th September 2018. The police stood guard and blocked the public from the shopping complex.

Members of the public tried to carry materials away from the site but were blocked by the many officers manning the site.

Taj Mall Owner defied orders to Vacate

In September, the owner of the Mall Ramesh Gorasia said he will not vacate as ordered by the team in charge of demolitions of illegal buildings.

“I’ll not leave or remove anything from the building. Why should I do that? If they want to demolish, let them come and do whatever they want to do,” Gorasia said.

Taj Mall Value

The mall was officially opened on August 1, 2011 by then Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka. It’s reportedly valued at Sh5.5 billion.
