Peter Armitage Career
Armitage had three spells as the character Bill Webster on long-running soap opera Coronation Street. He appeared in the role in 1984 (for six months), then from 1995 to 1997 and more recently from 2006 to 2011. Armitage had previously appeared as a different character playing a painter and decorator in two episodes in 1977. In 2014 he was quoted saying in an interview that he hoped to return to the series after successfully battling bowel cancer.
Armitage’s other TV credits include The Befrienders, Couples, Jack the Ripper and Hearts, and Minds. He also appeared in Lucky Feller, a short-lived sitcom starring David Jason.
Armitage is also remembered for appearing in a Yellow Pages advert in the 1980s as a father trying to convince his son not to have a racing bike as a birthday present. The advert ends with Armitage saying the line “I were right about that saddle though!”.
Peter Armitage Death and Cause
Armitage resided in Cross Hills, North Yorkshire and subsequently in Cononley near Skipton. He died on 4th December 2018. The cause of death has not been disclosed. However, he was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2013 and announced he was in remission in 2014; where he also expressed an interest in returning to Coronation Street. Armitage, who was divorced, leaves behind his two adult children Danny and Sally.
