The long list of people whom he sent suspicious packages includes George Soros, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Maxine Waters, Robert De Niro, and John Brennan (in that case, the package was addressed to him, care of CNN’s Manhattan headquarters.) At least some of the suspicious packages contained explosive devices. According to the FBI, all of the suspicious items were sent in manila envelopes with bubble wrap interior. The packages had computer-printed address labels and each envelope had six Forever stamps. All of the packages had a return address of “DEBBIE WASSERMAN SHULTZ” [sic] in Florida. Nobody was hurt by the explosives, which were all intercepted and successfully disabled by law enforcement officials.

Another package was addressed to former Attorney General Eric Holder but did not reach its intended destination. It was rerouted to the return address in Florida. A senior law enforcement official later confirmed that a package had been sent to California senator Kamala Harris and had been intercepted in Florida.

According to the filing, a fingerprint found on the package sent to Maxine Waters was matched to a fingerprint sample from Sayoc collected by law enforcement in Florida.

There is also “a possible DNA association” between Sayoc and samples recovered from the packaged addressed to Maxine Waters and Barack Obama.

The pages further show that he graduated from Brevard College, N.C./Univ of N.C. at Charlotte,” earning a Bachelor of Arts in numerous subjects as well as studying veterinary medicine. Sayoc writes on that profile that it was his dream to become a “horse doctor.” On his Twitter page, Sayoc says that he is a former professional soccer player and cage fighter. The Sun Sentinel reports that Sayoc is the owner of two businesses, Native American Catering and Ver Tech AG.

Cesar Sayoc Previous Criminal Activities

As per court records, Sayoc has been arrested several times in Broward County, Florida, dating back to 1991.  The most recent arrest was in Broward 2014.

Here are some highlights of his arrest;

  • Sayoc was charged with third-degree grand theft, a felony in 1991. He pleaded guilty that same year and was sentenced to two years of probation.
  • In 1994, As per Court Records, his mother sought a domestic violence injunction against Sayoc.
  • In 2002, he was charged with making a bomb threat in Dade County, Florida. He received a sentence of one year of probation. Prosecutors agreed to withhold adjudication of the felony charge, meaning it was dismissed after he completed the probation in 2003.
  • In 2004, Sayoc was arrested on drug charges. He was accused of possession and sale of steroids, along with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, tampering with evidence, filing fraudulent tax returns, criminal use of personal ID info and possession or unlawful issue of a driver’s license. He pleaded guilty that same year and was sentenced to 18 months of probation.
  • In 2009, Sayoc was charged with operating without a valid license, not having insurance and not having a tag light and was fined after pleading guilty to the misdemeanor charges.
  • In 2013, Sayoc was charged with battery and third-degree grand theft, a felony. He pleaded guilty in 2014 and was sentenced to probation.
  • In 2014, Sayoc was arrested on a petit theft charge and violation of probation. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
  • He was also arrested on theft charges in Dade and Palm Beach counties in 1992 and 2015.

Sayoc was a prolific tweeter and often posted on Facebook. He goes by Cesar Altieri Randazzo on Facebook and @hardrock2016 on Twitter. Both the Facebook and Twitter accounts have however been taken down. He tweeted regularly about his belief that Florida Democrat Andrew Gillum was funded by billionaire philanthropist George Soros. Gillum faces off against Republican Ron DeSantis on 6th November 2018. On 24th October,  Sayoc tweeted to gossip site TMZ, “We Unconquered Seminole, Tribe, entire Hard Rock, Millions of our custom say absolutely NO to Andrew Gillum can’t handle his own city Tallahassee, Fl Leon county highest crime ever 4 yrs 70.60%in state Fla. Gillum plan tax all businesses 40%, that stop business.Under FBI investigation.”

Following Sayoc’s arrest, a woman named Rochelle Ritchie came forward to say that Sayoc had threatened her over social media in the past. Ritchie is a political commentator who once served as the spokeswoman for the Baltimore City State Prosecutor’s office. Ritchie says that she got threats from Sayoc and that she reported them to Twitter — but, Ritchie says, Twitter ignored the threats.

According to online records, Sayoc is a registered Republican, who registered with the GOP in Florida in March 2016. He attended Donald Trump’s inauguration on 20th January 2017. He also posted a couple of photos in Trumps rallies.

Federal officials declined to discuss Sayoc’s motive on the day he was arrested (Friday, 26th October 2018), saying that the investigation was still ongoing.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said he did not know why the suspected bomber was targeting Democrats. “He appears to be partisan,” Sessions said.

Wray added that while the FBI believes it found “the right guy,” the agency does not know if there were more people sending mail bombs if there are more bombs that have not yet been discovered.
