Chris Lambert Dies in an Accident

Lambert worked for Illinois State Police (ISP) for 5 years. At the time of the accident, he was heading home when he stopped at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes at milepost 49.25, near Willow Road.

As per director of the Illinois State Police, Leo Schmitz, Lambert had parked his police cruiser in the left lane and was outside his vehicle when another vehicle hit him.

After the crash, the 34-year-old Lambert was given CPR by an off-duty nurse and was later taken to Glenbrook Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 7:30 p.m., Saturday, January 12th, 2019.

“We lost one of our own. One of our best. Everybody loved him,” Schmitz said during a Saturday night press conference.

Police are carrying out their investigation on both crashes, but Schmitz said the causes were likely weather-related as the snow had fallen most of Saturday throughout the Chicago area.

The driver of the vehicle that hit Lambert stopped and cooperating with police.

Lambert’s body will be transported to the medical examiner’s office with full police honors, Schmitz said.
