Ron Helus Career
Sergeant Ron Helus had 29 years of service at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. He is an FBI certified firearms instructor and a POST (Peace Officer’s Standards and Training) instructor. He had thousands of hours of specialized training. He has worked, in the following assignments:
- patrol (Deputy, Senior Deputy, Sergeant)
- SWAT; all aspects of firearms, less lethal, and
- Chemical agents instruction; investigations; narcotics; and wellness advisor.
Ron Helus owned and operated a Gun Control: Firearms Training and CCW Instruction. He had a Master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and was planning to pursue my doctorate degree in the near future.
Ron Helus (Borderline Bar & Grill Shooting)
Sergeant Ron Helus was 29-year force veteran and father of one son(Jordan Helus) was declared dead at a local hospital from multiple gunshots while responding to an active shooter in Southern California bar (Borderline Bar & Grill). He was due to retire next year (2019).
Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean says sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Helus responded to the scene and was shot after he entered the building. He died at a hospital early Thursday.
The sheriff further said that 13 people were killed from the incident, including a sheriff’s sergeant and the gunman. At least 200 people were reportedly inside the bar attending a college country music night at the time. The shooting happened inside a crowded Southern California bar late Wednesday. The gunman has been identified as Ian David Long an ex-marine.

Sergeant Ron Helus is survived by his wife and son, Jordan Helus.
Rest in peace to all the victims of the Borderline Bar shooting, but specifically to Sgt. Ron Helus, of the Thousand Oaks Sheriff's Department, who immediately made entrance into the building, losing his life saving others. His entrance no doubt saved numerous lives.

Rest easy Ventura Sheriffs Sergeant Ron Helus. He died at the hospital about an hour ago.
Sgt. Helus was a 29 year veteran planning to retire next year.
He gave his life saving others.💙
